Senior Officer – Children’s and Youth Services (Roving)
About Us
Central Desert Regional Council is a local government authority covering an area over 282,000 Sq. kilometres. The Council provides a range of services in 12 communities to the North of Alice Springs: Lajamanu, Ti Tree, Wilora, Nturiya, Pmara Jutunta, Willowra, Laramba, Nyirripi, Yuelamu, Atitjere, Engawala and Yuendumu. There are also several homelands and outstations. The Central Desert area is considered remote and disadvantaged and over 80% of the population is Aboriginal.
The Role
This is an unusual role that will suit someone who has the right qualifications, a unique skill set and a passion for working with children, young people and families in remote Aboriginal communities.
This is a highly varied and mobile role for an adventurous person seeking a new challenge on a weekly basis. One week, you may find yourself in Nyirripi coordinating the operations of the Child Care Centre. The next week you may be coordinating the youth, sport and recreation activities in Atitjere. The following week may be spent in Ti Tree facilitating the local Playgroup sessions.
The primary purpose of this role is to keep our children’s and youth services operating when we have vacancies and when staff are on leave. Very regular visits to remote communities should be expected.
Keys to your success:
You will have a minimum qualification of Cert IV in Education Support or a Diploma in Early Education or similar
- Experience in the delivery of child care and youth services
- Considerable experience, and a passion for working with Aboriginal staff and clients in remote locations
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent administrative, organisational and analytical skills
