About Ashburton Aboriginal Corporation
(AAC) is a not-for-profit Aboriginal organisation with its Head Office in Tom Price, WA. AAC’s mission is to establish and maintain an environment that benefits people through the creation of culturally appropriate employment and enterprise opportunities, and the provision of education and training services throughout the Pilbara. The AAC’s footprint extends across much of the vast Pilbara region and has been successfully supporting the development of opportunities for Aboriginal people in the region for many years.
AAC is currently seeking interest from suitably motivated couples to hold the dual positions of Community Engagement & Projects Mentors, in the remote community of Parnngurr, located approximately 370kms NE of Newman, within the southern boundary of Karlamilyi National Park. Parnngurr is a “dry” community with a population of around 150 Martu people. The community has a school, clinic and store and is accessed by tourists
visiting the park and driving the Canning Stock Route.
Intent
The Community Engagement & Projects Mentors play a key role in supporting the
delivery of the Community Development Program (CDP), administered by the National
Indigenous Australians Agency (NIAA). These roles are designed for hands-on individuals
with practical trade or project skills, strong communication and mentoring abilities, and
a passion for working alongside Aboriginal communities in remote regions. The
successful candidates will contribute to training programs, community development
projects, and provide one-on-one support to maximize participant engagement and
outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Project Delivery & Community Engagement
- Collaborate with CDP participants on community projects, providing practical, on-
the-ground support and guidance. - Ensure all relevant Risk Assessments for designated projects are completed and
kept up to date. - Implement appropriate methods to obtain participant feedback on projects and
training. - Contribute to project reports and highlight success stories for NIAA and AAC
communications/social media, where applicable. - Build and maintain knowledge of local services, external networks, training
providers, and partner organizations to enhance project delivery.
Mentoring & Participant Support - Motivate, coach, and mentor job seekers to engage with programs and achieve
personal and employment goals. - Provide one-on-one support and effective counselling strategies tailored to
individual needs. - Foster positive, respectful relationships based on integrity, mutual benefit, and
aligned with AAC’s mission and values.
Compliance & Administration - Maintain accurate attendance records for participants in line with audit and
compliance requirements. - Ensure full understanding of NIAA contractual guidelines and AAC’s policies.
- Maintain thorough records of stakeholder engagement and community
interactions for operational and performance reporting.
Workplace Health & Safety (WH&S) - Promote and uphold AAC’s WH&S policies, ensuring safe environments for all staff,
participants, and visitors. - Ensure WH&S procedures are adhered to across all community projects and
training sites. - Contribute to a positive, inclusive workplace culture free of bullying, harassment,
and discrimination.
